Why You Need to Complete the 2020 Census

Did you know that June 17 is Statewide Census Day? The Census provides a snapshot of our nation as a whole, and you can be a part of shaping the future of West Virginia!

Why is the Census so important? Data from the 2020 Census will affect our local communities every day for the next decade.

2020 Census data will be used to:

  1. Ensure public services and funding for schools, hospitals, and fire departments.
  2. Plan new homes and businesses and improve neighborhoods.
  3. Determine how many seats West Virginia is allocated in the House of Representatives.

For example, if West Virginians don’t complete the Census, we could have one less representative seat in Congress, less funding for our healthcare and schools, and less resources for local businesses.

Worried about keeping your information secure? When you complete the Census, your identity is kept confidential. Strict laws protect your responses – information like your Social Security Number, bank account or credit card numbers, money, or political party affiliation will never be collected as part of the Census.

Completing the 2020 Census is easy and should only take about 10 minutes of your time! You can complete the Census online, over the phone, or via mail.
