West Virginia Leader for Site Readiness

In February 2020, Appalachian Power Company held a series of economic development meetings around the state where they introduced a new site assessment program. The program provides extra tools and resources to help economic development entities be proactive in identifying viable economic development sites in their communities; accessing their best use; planning proper development; and appropriately representing the property to site selection consultants.

The utility’s site selection consultant, InSite Consulting of Greenville, SC, led the presentations to local economic development officials in Wheeling, Charleston and Beckley.  New River Gorge Regional Development Authority was selected to participate as the example of a successful community program model.

NRGRDA Deputy Director, Jina Belcher, presented on the organization’s experience and successful results of working through the site assessment program, which they had completed earlier in the year as part of their strategic planning process.
