United States® Census 2020

The census is a count of every person who lives in the United States and its territories. The New River Gorge Regional Development Authority is dedicated to keeping residents informed. Did you know that the census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution in Article 1, Section 2? So, responding to the 2020 Census fulfills your civic duty and is a chance to shape your future. This year, you will be asked to count everyone who lives in your home as of April 1, 2020. Your response helps to direct billions of dollars in federal funds to local communities for schools, roads, and other public services. Participation is absolutely vital.

Every household in America will receive a notice to complete the census online, by phone, or by mail. In May, the U.S. Census Bureau will begin following up in person with households that have yet to respond. You will be asked a few simple questions, like age, sex, and the number of people who live in your home, including children. The 2020 Census questionnaire should only take about 10 minutes to complete online.

Your responses to the 2020 Census are safe, secure, and protected by federal law. Please note, the census will never ask for Social Security numbers, bank or credit card numbers, donations, money, or anything related to political parties.
