Oak Hill, W.Va. (February 9, 2026) – Rent A Son LLC in Oak Hill was named the 2025 Minority Small Business of the Year by the West Virginia Hive, the entrepreneurial program of the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority (NRGRDA).
Founder Larry Wilkins and Rent A Son LLC – which offers multi-faceted home assistance services in the New River Gorge region — were honored at the December 2025 Annual Awards Banquet and client showcase hosted in Beckley by NRGRDA/WV Hive.
Started in February 2024 as a minority-owned business, Rent A Son LLC provides customers with flexible, non-medical support services designed to help individuals and organizations meet every day needs. Services include housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, lawn care, snow removal, medication reminders, grocery shopping, and storage solutions. The business primarily serves senior residents and local church organizations, helping clients remain safe, independent, and supported in their homes and communities.
After years of service as an Emergency Medical Technician, Wilkins launched Rent A Son to address gaps he observed firsthand in care and support for aging populations. The business was built with adaptability in mind, offering customized services that respond to evolving community needs while maintaining a strong focus on trust, reliability, and compassion.
Despite the challenges faced by many new startups, Rent A Son has experienced steady growth during its two years of operations, driven by an increased online presence and strong word-of-mouth referrals. Looking ahead, Wilkins plans to invest in additional equipment and hire more staff in 2026, positioning the business for job creation and long-term financial stability.
The WV Hive has provided ongoing business advising to support Rent A Son’s development and growth since its beginnings. Matt Nichols, WV Hive business advisor, said Rent A Son LLC being named Minority Small Business of the Year recognizes the company’s strong community impact, innovative service model, and commitment to supporting elderly residents and local organizations across the region.
In presenting the award to Wilkins, Nichols, said, “The Minority Small Business of the Year Award recognizes an entrepreneur who demonstrates resilience, innovation, and meaningful community impact. Larry Wilkins exemplifies these qualities through Rent A Son’s service-driven model and commitment to supporting seniors and community organizations. His business reflects how entrepreneurship can strengthen communities while creating pathways for sustainable growth.”
“Social responsibility remains central to Rent A Son’s mission,” said Wilkins. “By helping seniors live safely and independently and supporting faith-based and community organizations, the business delivers a lasting positive impact. As the company grows, I am committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects and serves the community.” To book a son or to learn more, visit www.rentason.net
