NRGRDA Promotes New Leadership

In 2017, the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority (NRGRDA) ushered in a new chapter of leadership both in operations as well as board leadership. Starting in August, Board of Directors leadership positions transitioned, instating Robert Shafer as the new Chairman, Robert Rappold as Vice-Chair, and Greg Rogers as Secretary/Treasurer.

Mayor Shafer expresses an eagerness to move the organization forward in his statement “I will work to provide the best leadership allowing us to capitalize on the Board of Directors’ knowledge and many talents.  We will re-energize the many collaborative relationships that comprise the foundation we were built upon.  Our staff knowledge and professional talents are industry leading as is our partners, businesses we work with, and community leaders we rely on.”

Following Board of Director appointments, Joe Brouse accepted the promotion to Executive Director, effective December 1st, 2017. With almost 30 years’ experience in guiding West Virginia’s entrepreneurs, connecting communities and businesses with resources, and building partnerships throughout the state, the board of directors feels confident in his ability to take the organization to new heights with solid foundations, transparency, and endless possibilities.

In this position, Joe will work to develop critical programming, strengthen the resources available to the organization and region, and increase the competitiveness of the region for businesses of every type.

Joe’s expertise is in lending. Not only has he worked with commercial banks, but also with alternative lenders such as Natural Capital Investment Fund (NCIF). During his time at NCIF, he sharpened his ability to serve triple bottom line businesses with sustainable development lending and investing.  It’s that local economic development mindset that will help him serve the New River Gorge region of West Virginia.
