AMY SHOWALTER

Amy plays a key role in advancing NRGRDA’s mission to strengthen economic opportunities in the New River Gorge region. As Community Asset Assistance, Department Lead, she focuses on improving quality of place for residents and the local workforce through smart growth strategies. Additionally, Amy serves as the Project Lead for NRGRDA and WV Hive’s efforts within the ACT Now Coalition.

Amy has a strong background in program management, economic research, and community development, with experience in nonprofits across home repair, education, healthcare, and national service administration. Her work is driven by a desire to contribute to systems that work for people and communities. Before joining NRGRDA, she earned dual master’s degrees in Urban and Regional Planning and Public Administration from Virginia Tech.

Growing up in rural Virginia, Amy developed an appreciation for the hard work and innovation of farmers and entrepreneurs in her community, shaping her commitment to supporting economic growth in southern West Virginia. She is passionate about fostering strong local networks and practical solutions that help people and communities succeed.

Beyond work, Amy enjoys old house projects, advocating for pedestrian and bicyclist safety, and serving as a board member for Active Southern West Virginia. When not building organizational systems or working with community partners to support regional growth, she can often be found on local hiking trails.
