Back in April, Congressmen Jenkins helped the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority announce their plans to establish the West Virginia Hive Network. This network will become a physical flex office space network and a hub of entrepreneur support. While the complete build out of this network includes locations in Summersville, Oak Hill, Hinton, and Lewisburg, the first location being established will be in Beckley. This location is the result of a partnership between the West Virginia University Launch Lab and the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority.

In Beckley, the WVU Launch Lab and WV Hive Network will cohabitate within O’Dell Hall, on the new WVU Beckley campus. This facility will house a networking lounge, design lab, coding lab, maker space, video conferencing facility, reception area, and event space. Entrepreneurs from the community and within WVU Beckley will be able to stop in any time to discuss their venture ideas with a regional business coach who can guide them through any preparation necessary for them to maximize their market impact.

With the entire West Virginia University Beckley campus undergoing renovations, the Beckley Hive will benefit from upgraded street signage, building upgrades, and new technology and more square footage than originally projected.

The Beckley Hive is set to open in October of 2015, and will be among the first services to be offered on campus. The regional business coach will be on site to assist entrepreneurs at any phase of development, including ideation, incubation, and acceleration.

In an effort to continue the build out of the West Virginia Hive Network, the NRGRDA has applied for foundational support and federal funding to support the establishment of facilities in Hinton, Lewisburg, Summersville, and Oak Hill. These facilities will provide access to resources often unavailable to those in rural areas.
